Home delivered meals are about helping senior citizens maintain their independence and stay in their own homes.
The Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Board/Area Agency on Aging is the provider of home delivered meals in our 5 county planning district. Our service is provided under the Older American’s Act, which states that you need to be homebound in order to receive home delivered meals. We target individuals who are 60 years or older and homebound. Priority is given to older individuals with greatest economic and social need, with preference to low income minority individuals and to those older persons residing in rural or geographically isolated areas.
Nutritional supplements are available if ordered by the physician. We have provided 27,472 (August 2,902) this fiscal year to 206 (August 144) eligible senior citizens.
All of our meals are prepared in the central kitchen and delivered to the consumer by a RSVP volunteer or paid staff. The person delivering the meal is always a welcome site as well as the food.br>
Each of our consumers is encouraged to contribute whatever they can toward the cost of their meal. I would also encourage you to support senior citizens with a donation to Piedmont United Way for home delivered meals.
